In-school medical and behavioral health services make care convenient and accessible for students and their families. Our goal is to support student success at school and beyond by providing care where they spend most of their time – at school. Staffed by Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic

Schedule an Appointment

Students can schedule appointments in person at the THC or by calling us at 206-860-0480. Students can visit the THC anytime to make an appointment and may be seen promptly if a provider is available. 

Where is the Teen Health Center? 

We are located inside the main building in Suite 102 (co-located with School Nurse Sam). Come say hello!

How much does it cost? 

There is currently no out-of-pocket cost for services at the Garfield Teen Health Center and we do not bill insurance.

What services are available?

Medical

  • Sports physicals
  • Well Child Checks
  • Immunizations
  • Reproductive healthcare
  • STI testing 
  • Evaluation and treatment of chronic (i.e. asthma) and acute (i.e. colds) illness and injury 
  • Gender affirming care
  • Nutrition
  • Acne

Mental Health

  • Individual and group therapy
  • Psychiatric care evaluation and treatment for concerns such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD
  • Connection to community mental health resources

Basic Needs/Resources

  • Food, clothing, transportation access
  • Apple Health/Medicaid insurance application
  • Community programs (afterschool programs, mental health resources, etc.)
  • Job/Internship support
  • Financial assistance programs

Register

Students must be registered for services at the Teen Health Center before they can be seen. Pick up a registration packet from the Teen Health Center or sign up online. Registration must be renewed each school year. Confidential minor consent forms are only available at the center. Students must be enrolled and have a scheduled appointment before receiving services.

Who can use the health center?

Services are available to any student with a SPS ID.

  • Written consent from a legal guardian is required before students can be seen for non-confidential services (sports physicals, vaccines, routine preventative care). Guardians can complete consent forms on DocuSign or paper copies are available at the health center
  • Students may consent to their own confidential care only in the following cases: 
    • mental health care at 13 years or older
    • STI testing and treatment at 14 years or older
    • and reproductive healthcare at any age

Meet the Garfield Teen Health Center Staff

Steven Akuffo, Richelle Clifton, Daisy Ortiz
Steven Akuffo MS LMHC (he/him), Richelle Clifton (she/her) and Daisy Ortiz are the clinic’s mental health therapists this year! They provide individual and group therapy for studentsSteven and Daisy will be at Garfield Monday-Friday and Richelle will see students on Mondays. 
Aaron Klein, Kenisha Campbell, Oriana Souers-Dilley, Shannon Nash
Aaron Klein ARNP (he/him), Kenisha Campbell MD MPH (she/her), Oriana Souers-Dilley ARNP (she/her), and Shannon Nash DNP (she/her) are the clinic’s medical providers. They provide a variety of services, including well child exams and sports physicals, asthma care, vaccinations, reproductive health, gender affirming care and more! All the medical providers at Garfield also practice at the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic and may already serve as a primary care provider to some Garfield families.
Micky Kander

Micky Kander, PA-C MPH MSW (he/him)is the psychiatric provider who specializes in both behavioral health and primary care.

He can see students for evaluation and treatment for things like ADHD, anxiety, depression and PSTD. Mickey is at Garfield every Tuesday. 

Jannet Nieves Noriega

Jannet Nieves Noriega (she/her)is the clinic’s registered dietician and sees students for anything food and diet related, from questions about sports nutrition to eating disorders and nutrient deficiencies.

Jannet’s goal is to help encourage healthy relationships with food. 

Michelle Reese

Michelle Reese(she/her) is the clinic’s Community Care Coordinator and helps connect patients and families to resources outside of school like food, clothing, or Medicaid/Apple Health.

Michelle is also a proud Garfield alumni and Bulldog mom! 

Fadumo Adan, Tsega Tekeste

Fadumo Adan (she/her) and Tsega Tekeste (she/her)are community mental health workers who help connect students and families to mental health resources outside of school.

Fadumo and Tsega are at Garfield on Thursdays.

Melanie Cope

Melanie Cope (she/her) is the Clinic Coordinator and is at the Teen Health Center on Monday – Friday.

Mel helps with scheduling, outreach, and getting students and families signed up with the clinic. 

Nisreen El-Saadoun

Nisreen El-Saadoun, MPH (she/her) is Odessa Brown’s School-Based Health Program Manager.

She is the programmatic point-of -contact and supports communications, partnerships, and operations of the Teen Health Center and other school-based health center sites.

The Garfield Teen Health Center (THC) is a safe, confidential place where students from Garfield High School and Seattle Public Schools can receive medical, nutritional services and mental health care. The Teen Health Center promotes how to live healthier lifestyles through education and counseling. Our goal is to provide quality care that is accessible and convenient for students and their families. Students do not have to change their primary care provider to use school-based health services. Interpretation is always available. Students can get everything from their sports physicals and flu shot to mental health therapy.
