Types of Assessments
On the Garfield HS Assessments page you will find an overview and helpful dates and detailed information about the different kinds of testing that happen for students over the course of their four years at Garfield High School. AP Exams in May 2026
- Week 1: May 4 – 8, 2026
- Week 2: May 11 – 15, 2026
Check back for AP Exam course days and times at Garfield HS and note that students must use a SPS issued device for the AP exams.
Advanced Placement (AP) Testing – Spring 2026
As we prepare for AP testing this spring, please take a few minutes to review the information below with your student so everyone feels prepared and supported. AP Exam Dates: The primary AP testing window runs: May 4–8, 2026 and May 11–15, 2026. A late testing window is available only for students with approved conflicts and follows College Board guidelines. Conflicts and late testing:
Families should review the testing window carefully. If you are aware of a conflict, please contact Mr. Rhodes; idrhodes@seattleschools.org as soon as possible. He will share information about the late testing process.
Device expectations
- Students must use their Seattle Public Schools–issued device for AP exams.
- Students are required to bring both their device and charger on exam day. Preparing devices in advance helps reduce stress during testing week.
Late testing is approved only for the following College Board–defined situations:
- Academic, athletic, or school-sponsored contests or events
- Conflicts with IB or Cambridge exams
- Conflicts with nationally, state-, or district-required tests
- Two or more AP exams scheduled at the same date and time
- Religious holidays or observances
- Serious injury, illness, or family tragedy
- Emergency situations (for example, fire alarm or evacuation)
- School closure due to elections, national holidays, natural disasters, strikes, or labor conflicts
- Student court appearances
- Graduation
- Disability accommodation issues
- Language lab scheduling conflicts
- Delayed exam shipment or digital testing logistics issues
- Makeup exams required due to an incident during the original exam
Testing locations and schedules: Specific testing locations and room assignments are still being finalized. Final schedules and locations will be shared closer to the testing window. Thank you for your patience.
AP registration reminder: Seattle Public Schools follows a strict AP registration deadline. Students who did not meet the registration deadline will need to wait until next year to test. Thank you to the families and students who planned ahead and completed registration on time. As noted in the January 9, 2026 Principal Newsletter.

AP Exam Registration/Payment Due Oct. 31, 2025
Important Checklist
- Step 1: Students must Register (on CollegeBoard) AND
- Step 2: Students must Pay (via Parent/Guardian SchoolPay) for their AP Exams by October 31 by 5 p.m. PT in order to take the AP Exams on May 4-8 and 11-15, 2026.
- The standard exam fee is $125.00 + a 3.99 SchoolPay transaction fee.
- Students eligible to receive an exam fee reduction or waiver for the 2025-26 school year, pay $20 per exam. Please email AP Test Coordinator, Mr. Rhodes at idrhodes@seattleschools.org for a reduced fee SchoolPay link. Complete the application: School Meals Application. Students who qualify for Free and Reduced lunch qualify for the reduced fee.
- Students must be currently enrolled in an AP Class at GHS to register for the corresponding AP test.
- Registrations that are not paid by October 31, 2025 at 5 p.m. PT will be cancelled/exams will not be ordered.
- AP Students are NOT required to take AP exams.
- Students who cancel an exam BEFORE March 13, 2026 will be charged $65 per exam (College Board Policy). Your $60 refund will be processed after completion of AP exam administration June 2026.
- Students who don’t end up taking their exam that was ordered, will be charged $65 per unused exam. Your refund of $60 per exam for any unused AP exams will be processed after completion of AP exam administration June 2026.

Garfield HS students taking an AP Exams MUST Register AND Pay for AP Exam(s) by October 31, 2025 5 p.m. PT. AP Exams will be in May 2026.
PSAT & SAT In-School Information

Scores will be released for SAT tests taken in October by College Board. Students will need to create a free College Board account (if they have not already) in order to see their scores.
Purpose of the PSAT & SAT Assessments
- The PSAT helps 11th graders practice for the SAT and provides entry into the National Merit Scholarship Program.
- The SAT is widely used for college admissions and scholarships. Many colleges remain test-optional, but a strong SAT score can support applications and expand scholarship opportunities.
State Assessment Information
- Smarter Balanced ELA & Math (SBA) Window: TBD
- Required for all 10th graders.
- Available for 11th and 12th graders needing to meet graduation requirements.
- Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS)Window: TBD
